full-fibre broadband provider, toob, has donated its 900 Mbps service to the Community Grub Hub in Aldershot

toob full-fibre broadband has donated its 900 Mbps service to support the Community Grub Hub in Aldershot.

The Community Grub Hub, located on Windsor Way, aims to reduce food poverty in the local community by running a weekly food bank service and the centre helps the environment by reducing food waste. Those living in the Rushmoor area can access the Grub Hub each Tuesday without the need for referral and the centre is stocked not only with food, but with household and hygiene products too.

The hub also provides a safe space for local people and offers signposting services, including advice on jobs, housing and debt management, as well as encouraging centre users to develop digital skills on its computers.

These computers were previously running on a slower and unreliable broadband connection, with some areas of the Grub Hub unable to access the internet for job searching and online training. Knowing the complications that a slow and unpredictable connection was causing for centre users, Grub Hub director, Steven Baxerdale, was keen to upgrade its service to full-fibre broadband.

On hearing about the connection issues at the Hampshire-based centre, toob, which is headquartered in Portsmouth and serves over 80,000 customers, got in touch with the Grub Hub about donating our 900 Mbps full-fibre service to keep the local community connected and support the valuable hard work the facility carries out.

Nick Parbutt, toob CEO said: “I’m delighted we could donate our 900 Mbps service to Aldershot’s Community Grub Hub as it provides essential support for local people across the area.

“Community is at the heart of everything we do here at toob and we believe access to fast and reliable broadband should be accessible for all so I’m very pleased we could support Steven and all the great work that is carried out by the valuable Grub Hub volunteers.”

Steven Baxerdale said: “It’s fantastic we can now use toob’s full-fibre broadband across the Community Grub Hub. Our previous broadband service struggled to reach all the corners of the building and toob’s reliable connection will allow Grub Hub users to apply for jobs and develop digital skills while our volunteers carry out day-to-day tasks online.”

toob has a history of community support and feels strongly about continuing this work. Over the years, the full-fibre provider has supported many charitable organisations through fundraising, events and sponsorships, collecting over £7,000 for Solent Mind and sponsoring firefighters Stuart Vince and Craig Sadler who raised £16k for The Firefighters Charity and Mind by rowing across the Atlantic.

toob employees have taken part in the Great South Run and an open water swim in the Solent, with CEO Nick Parbutt and CFO Mike Banwell also taking on their own extreme challenges by abseiling the iconic Spinnaker Tower and completing a 100km extreme trek in 30 hours, all in the name of charity fundraising.
